Recently, a team of experts found a kimberlite block in the Republic of Yakutia (Russia) and confirmed that this is the oldest specimen in history ever.
Recently, a nAccording to scientists, the diamond institute is about 3.6 billion years old. The scientific director of the Institute of Geology and Minerals at the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Nikolai Pokhilenko, added that it is more likely to be the oldest diamond ever. Kimberlite was found in the Republic of Yakutia (Russia) and confirmed that this is the oldest specimen in history ever.
Its size is about 0.3mm. The outside of the diamond is covered with the mineral olivine at a temperature of more than 1,400 degrees Celsius, a depth of 180km and a pressure of over 5.5 Gpa. Experts found this diamond using isotope dating.
This is a method that uses a technique to determine the age of materials, based on the comparison of isotopes involved in radioactive decay, to determine how old the sample is.
Academician Nikolai affirmed that this diamond is the oldest, at least this is the oldest diamond that humans can study up to this point.
The diamond was found in one of the largest diamond mines in Russia - Udachnaya. Since about the end of 1960, scientists have started to study samples of minerals in this diamond mine.
Currently Russian scientists are still studying this rare diamond, showing positive signs from the oldest diamond mining in Russia.
