Ukraine carefully studies the change of the name of Russia

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the government to consider a petition to change the way Russia is called Moscovia - an unofficial name from centuries ago.

RT on March 11, reported that President Zelensky tasked Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal to carefully study the change of calling Russia in Ukrainian to "Moscovia" to cut all historical ties.

Specifically, this move came after a petition with 25,000 signatures said that Ukraine's use of the word Russia means that Russia is a direct descendant of Kievan Rus. The petition also asks to replace the word Russian (Russian) with the word Moscovian.

It is known that the name Moscovia originates from the Principality of Moscow, one of the principalities belonging to the Grand Duchy of Kievan Rus in the late Middle Ages. The modern Russian state formed around this center of power, while retaining its historical and cultural roots rooted in the Rus people.

However, many Ukrainian nationalists reject the notion that Russia and Ukraine have a historical connection. They claim only Ukraine can be considered the true heir of Kievan Rus.

Mr. Zelensky stressed, this issue needs to be carefully addressed both in the historical and cultural context, as well as from the perspective of possible international legal consequences and must involve the participation of scientific organizations. learn.

Commenting on the move, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said it was evidence of efforts to create an anti-Russian force in Ukraine.

In recent years, Ukraine has embarked on renaming thousands of places it believes are associated with Russia or the Soviet Union. The operation was accelerated after Russia carried out a special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.

In another development, the Russian private military force Wagner announced that the group was only 1.2 km from the administrative center of Bakhmut. "The 5-storey building where the smoke rises is the administrative center of Bakhmut. Russia is 1.2km from that building," said Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin.

Many sources from the scene said that groups of Ukrainian forces are still trying to reunite in Bakhmut in an attempt to break through to open the encirclement that Russia is tightening in recent times. However, several large explosions are taking place in Bakhmut after Prigozin confirmed that Wagner had received enough ammunition to be able to launch an attack in the area.

Bakhmut is considered an important transport hub for Ukrainian forces in the Donbass region. Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said that controlling Bakhmut would create a hole in Ukraine's defense system, helping Russian forces to advance further.
